Explosive Devices Destroyed Outside Roshni-Chu of Chechnya 22.04.2005, 02.23 Released by the Ministry of the Interior Two deadly radio-operated explosive devices and a few parts to assemble more have been seized in the Chechen district of Uru-Martan, reported the North Caucasus Counter-Terrorist Regional Operations HQ. Well-disguised, they were discovered in a forested area adjacent to a road, just outside the settlement of Roshni-Chu. Federals removed the devices, which were made of 152-mm artillery shells, and three 120-mm mortar mines, altered to be used in improvised bombs. The explosives were boosted with scraps and fitted with radio detonators. http://www.itar-tass.com/eng/level2.html?NewsID=1961891 Another arsenal was located on the environs of Meskety, of the Nozhai-Yurt district. Militants had stashed an antitank grenade launcher, two kilos of TNT and a 120-mm mine, prepared to be used as an explosive device, in a destroyed building. The bombs and the explosives were destroyed, the source noted. Search for the bandits that hid them is underway.

Group of militants eliminated outside Dyshne-Vedeno 20.04.2005, 02.28 Released by the Ministry of the Interior Several militants have been eliminated at a major base in the Chechen district of Vedeno, which also had a weapon depot, reported the North Caucasus Counter-Terrorist Regional Operations HQ. A day before the operation, security agencies were informed about a group of militants, who reported to Shamil Basaev, lodging in the camp. The bandit hideout was said to have harboured Basaev once in a while. Federal forces found the base four kilometers east of the settlement of Dyshne-Vedeno, the source noted. Federals came under fire when neared the base and had to retaliate, shelling the camp. Seven bandits in all were eliminated and several militants managed to escape, the HQ reported. The federals searched the base, seizing an AK machinegun, five rifles, an antitank grenade launcher and scores of assorted bullets. The base had several foxholes, tents and rooms rigged to give first aid. There also was a sizable stockpile of medicines. There were dugouts around the base and eight operated explosive devices attached to 152-mm shells by them. The federals blew up the camp and sent the weapons for testing. It had taken security agencies quite a while to locate the base, as its whereabouts were known to the closest associates of the powerful warlords only. Moreover, the hideout was at quite a distance from the settlement, at an area that was difficult to access. The fact that the base had medical equipment, security systems and bombs planted at paths leading to it might mean it had sheltered the most notorious warlords.
